The Impact of Congresswoman Cardiss Collins: Author Visit with Frank E. Dobson, Jr.

Description

Discover the story of Cardiss Collins, the fourth Black woman to serve in the US Congress, and the first Black woman from the Midwest to do so. Presented by Frank E. Dobson, Jr., author of A Leader With Courage: The Impact of Congresswoman Cardiss Collins, which he wrote with his daughter Jasmin.

Collins was thrust into public service due to a family tragedy, but she overcame and became a fierce advocate for the rights of women, minorities, and the poor, serving in Congress for 24 years.

Book signing and sale to follow. Book and presentation geared towards ages 8-13.

Frank Dobson is the Diversity Officer at Otterbein University. He has also published two other books (Rendered InvisibleStories of Blacks & Whites, Love & Death and The Race is Not Given), poetry, essays, short fiction, and scholarly
