The Exciting World of Audiobooks

August 17 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT

Audiobooks, the fastest growing publishing segment, can enable authors to reach new audiences/fans who prefer “on the go” reading and can increase your sales versus print only. Join us Saturday, August 17, from 11:00 a.m. to Noon at the Upper Arlington Library, 2800 Tremont Rd Audio and via Zoom, as we welcome book Narrators Gary Leo Smith and Jennifer Walden to give us insight into the process of creating audiobooks.

Gary Leo Smith
Jennifer Walden

They’ll touch on:

  • What authors should look for when selecting a narrator.
  • What audiobook narrators look for when considering whether an author/story is a good fit for them.
  • What issues do they address when creating an audiobook (e.g., phonetics, accents, genders, etc.)?
  • How much should an author expect to pay, and what goes into setting those costs?

Gary lives in central Ohio and has narrated 30+ audiobooks as a second career after working in marketing and art direction.  Jennifer is based out of Cincinnati and has 15 years of voice work experience, where she also promotes childhood literacy while dabbling in watercolor painting and running a goat farm.  Both Gary and Jennifer do their voice work from home audio studios.
