Smile for We: Seeing Black Men in a Different Light

Damon Mosley Author Event

More Info Here

Thursday, February 23
7:00pm – 8:00pm

Bexley Library Auditorium, BPL Virtual Programs

Damon Mosley was tired of seeing the negative stereotypes of Black men portrayed in the media and sensationalized nightly news cycles. He turned to his love of photography and started shooting Black men smiling in familiar locations, at their jobs, in barbershops, parks, and gyms, or at home spending time with their families. Join us as Damon shares the inspiration behind the #SmileForWe project, the process of publishing his book, and what he hopes will come from changing the public image of Black men. This conversation will be facilitated by members of the Bexley Minority Parents Alliance.

From the introduction: “My goal is to help Black men separate ourselves from the stigma. To reshape our image, so we can start being seen in a different light…Black men have got to be allowed to be human. From the country club to Sam’s Club, we need people to see us saying I love you.”

Author Bio:

Damon Mosley is a Columbus, Ohio-based writer, producer, and photography buff. The secret love child of Columbia University and the corner store, he is currently writing and producing his first feature film and a TV show based on his life. While navigating the ups and downs of the industry, he remains determined to amplify Black identity in his work.
