The original magazine (1931 – 1967) published authors such as Nelson Algren, Sherwood Anderson, John Cheever, Truman Capote, Nary O’Hara, Carson McCullers, Norman Mailer, Anaïs Nin, William Saroyan, and Richard Wright.
