Marty will be joined by two HQ favorites, Marlo Starr & Jenn Marie Nunes reading from new work.
Marty Cain is a poet originally from Vermont. He is the author of three books of poetry and hybrid writing: Kids of the Black Hole (2017) and The Wound Is (Not) Real: A Memoir (2022), both from Trembling Pillow Press, and most recently, The Prelude (Action Books, 2023). His individual works appear in Best American Experimental Writing, Fence, Poetry Daily, Denver Quarterly, and elsewhere. He holds an MFA from the University of Mississippi and a PhD from Cornell University; presently, he is a postdoc at Cornell, where he researches rural poetry, subcultural community, and media. He lives with his spouse and daughter in Ithaca, New York, where he co-edits Garden-Door Press, performs with BOGMOM, a multimedia art collective, and is the occasional vocalist for Ithaca punk band Joyous Shrub.
Jenn Marie Nunes is the author of three full-length collections of poetry: LIKE ME (Vegetarian Alcoholic Press, forthcoming 2023), Those People (Dog’s Heart Press, 2020), winner of the National Poetry Review Press Book Prize, and AND/OR (Switchback Books, 2015), winner of the Switchback books Queer Voices Award. Her poetry, fiction, and translations have been featured in many journals, including Denver Quarterly (2023), Asymptote Journal (2022), Asian American Writer’s Workshop: The Margins, Transpacific Literary Project (2019), Sixth Finch (2019), Action Yes! (2015), Tupelo Quarterly (2014), and the Black Warrior Review (2013). She is currently pursuing a PhD in contemporary Chinese literature and translation at OSU.
Marlo Starr is a writer and assistant professor of English and creative writing at Wittenberg University. Her poems have appeared in The Threepenny Review, Ghost City Review, Napkin Poetry Review, and elsewhere.
