From Photography to Poetry: Ekphrastic Flowers
Creative Writing Workshop
Saturday, February 11, 2023,
1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Instructed by Poet and Master Gardener Dr. Susann Moeller
An Ekphrastic poem is a poem inspired or stimulated by a work of art.
As Artist Ardine Nelson’s corridor exhibition, Transitory States, documents the life cycle of flowers through a macro photographic lens, encompassing the beauty of the aging process, you will be guided to contemplate the same — not through an optic lens but through words: The Queen of the Night is blowing an Angel’s Trumpet ……………
We will look at different approaches, such as representation/description, interpretation, commentary, persona/mask, transposition, and naming as disguise. Different exercises and examples will lead to the composition of your own poem(s). There will be a lot of word play and imaginary sniffing and touching as we research the images of Nelson’s chosen flowers.
Participants should bring materials with which to write.
Registration closes at the end of the day on Wednesday, February 8.
FEE: $55
