In this short but intensive workshop, students will learn about how to write a strong opening, and create vivid scenes that draw readers in and leave them with a satisfying ending. The class will conclude with sharing and personalized feedback, along with information about how and where to submit work to agents, contests, and literary journals.

Jen Knox is the founder of Unleash, a holistic arts organization, and an educator at Ohio State. Her debut novel, We Arrive Uninvited, is the Prose Award winner from Steel Toe Books (March 2023), and her collection of climate fiction, The Glass City, won the Prize Americana for Prose and will be released by Hollywood Books International in September 2023. Jen’s shorter work appears in McSweeney’s Internet Quarterly, The Saturday Evening Post, Chicago Review, and Chicago Tribune, among others. She recently won the 2023 CutBank Montana Prize in Nonfiction and is finalizing a collection of essays about work.
