Distraction-Free Writer’s Retreat at Griffey’s

If you feel like your phone is stealing your time and willpower to write, you’re not alone. It’s a well known fact that our phones can be addictive, and sometimes the hardest thing is to just put your phone down and work on something your passionate about. David and I (Aria) are both writers, and we know exactly how this feels. So we’ve put together what we call the Distraction-Free Writer’s Retreat, right here at Griffeys’ Book Emporium.

The Basics

The retreat will take place on Monday, August 14th from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at 4 Troy Road, Delaware OH, during hours that the store would normally be closed. This means that participants will have the store completely to themselves: no customers, no distractions, just plenty of time and space to write! Additionally, we will be asking participants to turn off and turn in their phones for the duration of the event. All cellphones will be put away securely in our office during the event so that they won’t even have the chance to steal your attention from your writing projects (you are welcome to bring a laptop to write on, but for similar anti-distraction reasons there will be no Wi-Fi). In case of emergencies, the store landline phone will be available.

Who Should Participate?

This retreat is intended for writers of all skill levels who want to take time away from their devices to intentionally improve their craft. That includes me! I will be participating alongside you, as well as leading some writing exercises and discussion time. Plus, you don’t have to be an aspiring novelist or even intending to publish your work; you’re welcome to bring a journal, personal blog, school paper, or other form of non-commercial writing as well; any type of writing will benefit from sustained attention and diligent work!

Finally, we will be providing beverages and a light lunch to all participants! Part of the ticket price goes to cover this. If you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, please contact us via email, phone, or the contact form on this website so that we can make arrangements accordingly.
