Concentric Wordbuilding in Sci-Fi: Whos-In, Whos Out? with Thurber House

In this workshop, we’ll look at a few worlds of different “opacities” and consider the roles of rumor, ignorance, and propaganda in science fiction.

As an author of speculative science fiction, you need to know everything about your fantastical world. But your characters came into that world the way we all came into this one: naked, babbling, surrounded by gossip and ruled by emotion.

Justin Martin is disabled and queer: in some ways, his whole life is a little askew. When he’s not teaching high school English or students at Thurber House, he loves to explore empathy and cruelty in made-up worlds to find new ways of living in ours.
