Join us for a special event, as we welcome writer Michael Tichy to the Unicorn Stage to celebrate the launch of his new novel, The Winnowing Draw.
Michael Tichy is the author of Behind Every Tree, Beneath Every Rock and Wound of the West (Castaigne). His stories have appeared in the anthologies Shredded, Into the Crypts of Rays, and Shiver. The Winnowing Draw is his first novel.
Book description: A 13 year old gambling prodigy wanted for murder, a fastidious and psychopathic bounty hunter, and an army officer drunk on ambition and destructive power. An ancient force draws them to the wound of the old west: a place of strange creatures and unfathomable geography – that may devour them.
The Winnowing Draw is an anti-Bildungsroman, a story about how the compromises we make define us, and how the things we do to overcome obstacles and survive often hollow and break us in the process.
It is a story about the horrors of Calvinism and Manifest Destiny, and the power of belief that permits the most inhuman of excesses.
It is a story about justice, always too little and too late, but precious and rare that it happens at all.
